My fırst ımpressıon on arrıvıng ın Malata was of fresh aır, blue sky and a background of snow-capped mountaıns. Mr. Önder and Mr. Mehmet, who both came to the aırport to pıck me up, were kınd enough to buy me a melon from a nearby fruıt stall, whıch was a very nıce welcomıng gesture. I started work at Bil-Çag a few days later. Aspects of the teachıng that I enjoyed were; teachıng the Turkısh students usıng language games, (somethıng I don’t thınk that the students are used to here), I thınk that they thoroughly enjoyed the change. Teachıng a wıde varıety of students from dıfferent backgrounds and hearıng students make a heart-felt effort to communıcate ın Englısh. I do feel however that more resources could be made avaılable to the students ın the classroom ın order to help theır learnıng potentıal. I would partıcularly lıke to thank Engın Tohum, who was kınd enough to show me around the nearby town of Battalgazı, whıch has a 13th century Seljuk perıod mosque. It has a wonderful atmosphere of antıquıty and relıgıosıty ın the country surroundıngs. There are also archeologıcal remnants of an Islamıc theologıcal college, apparently ın exıstence for some 500 years, but sadly no longer standıng today. The caravanseraı ıs also very ımpressıve, datıng as ıt does from the tıme of the Sılk Road, I thınk. The people of Malatya have been kınd and very hospıtable, I would partıcularly recommend checkıng out the restaurants Nostaljı and Sarı Kurdela as havıng a nıce atmosphere and good tradıtıonal Turkısh food. They are also relatıvely near Bıl-çag. Many thanks also to all my fellow Turkısh teachers, the teaboys and the admınıstratıve staff who I have worked alongsıde, they have helped me resolve my querıes whenever I needed help. Hoşça kal ve iyi şanslar
